Every month, the Sports Trends Fanalyst on the Trends Data Team curates and highlights some of the biggest search trends in the sports world.

March is synonymous with Madness as college hoopers look to make their mark during the NCAA tournament. On the pitch, the 2024 NWSL began with the league's newest expansion teams making their debuts.

Highlights of the Month

was the top trending NBA matchup in the US

The Boston Celtics achieved their third largest win in franchise history on March 3 when they beat the Golden State Warriors 140-88. It was the third time this season the Celtics beat an opponent by 50 or more points.

hip drop tackle nfl

was a breakout search in the US

Towards the end of the month, NFL Clubs voted to remove the hip-drop tackle from play. Searches asking "what is a hip drop tackle" broke out during the month as people looked to understand the new rule.

Indiana Fever Tickets

were the top trending topic related to the WNBA Draft

At the end of February, Caitlin Clark officially declared for the WNBA Draft, leading "who has the first pick in wnba draft" (it's the Indiana Fever) to become a breakout search in the US.

March Madness 🏀

The Iowa Hawkeyes WBB team are the top searched March Madness team – men or women – in the US in March.
